Bonnie Ruth Edward's Story

FATEFUL DAY I was born in NJ on Feb. 2, 1942 can't remember a thing about the birthing. My parents (Ed & Mickey) named me Ruth and then called me Bonnie. Bonnie is probably the name you'll remember me by. After attending Pitman High I moved to Phila. and lost contact with all my HS friends. I lived there 2-3 yrs. While there I took art classes at the Penn. Academy of Fine Arts & the Museum School of Art. While in living in Phila., I met my future partner/husband Adel Mahran who lived in New York City. Eventually I moved to NYC so we could be together all the time. Our relationship was very exciting for me because I lived in the most wonderful city in the US.....New York, New York. Adel came from Alexandria, Egypt where he had lived a privileged life since his father owned all the Trucking in Egypt plus other businesses. Adel was a Doctor of Psychology and established the APA Division on Hypnosis. We had a box at the Metropolitan Opera House because we both loved Opera, also attended the New York City Opera. Since he played violin we attended all the Classical Music Concerts. We belonged to all the Museums & attended their parties. So here I was this young woman living a whirlwind life in "The City". We bought a getaway home in the Adirondack Mountains on a small lake with 43 acres of woods. We had Whitetail Deer, Black Bears, Snowshoe Rabbits, Red Fox, Bobcats, Red Squirrels and of course the delightful little Chipmunks on the land. I took up the art of snowshoes so I could walk into the woods on snowy winter days. We had a hugh garden in the front of the house were we grow veggies in the short summer. I developed a love of traveling while with Adel because we were always hopping over to the Caribbean for a long weekend and to Europe for longer vacations. After 20 years together we split up. I was working at Citicorp as an AVP doing a lot of development and writing. I developed a program to retrain employees whose jobs had gone away so we could place them in another part of the Bank. I also wrote a book on how Money Flows Throw The Bank that became required reading for all new Officers. I had a long & rewarding career with Citibank. I left the bank because 9 different doctors I was seeing took me out for health reasons. They could not diagnose exactly what was wrong with me but know the stress in my job was harmful. It wasn't until over 20 years later that a doctor here in California thought I had MS and the tests showed that I did. After my divorce I moved to East End Avenue, the Mayor's Mansion was right down the street & there was a wonderful park. I owned a small Studio Apt. for me and my Russian Blue Cat, Kisa. We decorated everything exactly the way we wanted it....very modern. I settled into a great life and started taking photos of everything and developing my own special style. I volunteered at the New York City Opera and was one of Beverly's Girls, I got to see the Opera for free because I worked before the Opera & during all the intermissions...it was great. I met my second husband at a bus stop in NYC. Bruce is a photographer & that's what brought us together. We lived together for about 6 yrs before getting married. We established Esbin-Anderson Photography which became quite successful. We did Individual & Corporate Photography work. A large part of our business was Stock Photography & we were represented by 8 different Stock Photo Agents around the world. They would market our work worldwide and when an image sold we'd get a large percentage of the money. We traveled extensively in Europe to get the right stock photos for Travel books and ads. It was a wonderful & fun job & I loved owning my own business. Unfortunately our personal relationship interfered with our business so I divorced him in 2007. MY ART In 2000 I decided to start concentrating on what I really love, painting and sculpting. So I started to take a less active role in the photo business. I have never been so happy in my life as when I'm holding a brush to canvas or have my hands buried in clay. Now I have my own art business, ...Expand for more
REArt. I'm a self-taught artist who paints in oils, acrylics, paper & mixed media. I sculpt in clay cast into bronze & make sculptures from bones, found & recycled objects, etc. I teach art to small groups of interested people. I make digital art & still do photography. I'm not yet making a lot of money from my art but I'm hopeful & I've started to market myself heavily this year. You can see some of my art on Facebook. CONDO I now have a beautiful condo with lots of natural light & 2 balconies, ultra high ceilings & everything is very modern. I have a full skeleton, Dancy Mae, sitting in a wheelchair who greets our visitors. My entire place looks like an Art Gallery & I sell a lot of my work to people who come to visit. On July 1, 2009, I met the most wonderful man, Steve Lawrence. He has changed my life for the better & we're in a happy relationship everyone calls us' The Rainbow Couple'. He's my Art Muse. Another wonderful thing is that he's 18 years younger than me!!! I just love that. We have 2 beautiful cats Knodl & Kiva who are posted on my art sites. We have a wonderful group of friends & really enjoy life together. We both love going to performances at SD Opera & Long Beach Opera. My favorite music is: Opera, all Classical, Jazz and the Blues. We enjoy going to concerts, museums, taking long walks on the beach or in wooded parks. Steve is becoming a fantastic photographer & has even dabbled in making art. One of my favorite quotes is: "If ya don't ask, ya don't get". Some of my interests are: Cooking I studied cooking with a French & a Chinese Chef in NYC & enjoy making fab meals for our friends. Reading I read daily: art, nature & especially Whale/Dolphin magazines & books. Love books esp. murder mysteries. I read & write poetry. Concerts & Theater Go to concerts and theater. Museums & Zoo Enjoy going to all our fantastic museums & world class Zoo in Balboa Park. Volunteer Naturalist for the San Diego Natural History Museum I go out on the Hornblower in winter to talk to people about dolphins & the migrating Gray Whales & any other whales we might see: Blues, Humpbacks, Fins, etc. In Summer I go out of H&M Landing on various fishing boats to talk about the Great Blue Whale, Fin Whales, Humpback Whales & of course the wonderful Dolphins. The result is that I'm getting a really good photo collection of shots I've taken of the whales & dolphins. Both Steve & I are Animal Care Giver's at the SD Natural History Museum...we get to work with the snakes, lizards, spiders & bugs. In addition I get to take some of the shed snake skin to use in my paintings. TV VS NETFLIX We Don't Watch TV don't even have a TV cable set up. I haven't watched TV for about 30 years. Why: because I don't like the commercials, soap opera shows, reality shows, various talk shows, canned laughter, don't want to schedule my life around TV shows & much more. We belong to Netflix & can watch what we want, when we want, with no interruptions. CHILDREN Oh yeah I don't have any children, not by choice but it just never happened. PETS Cats, cats, cats. Current ones are Knodl my beautiful Dark Chocolate boy and Kiva our 5 year old Bengal. Bengal cats are have Domestic Cats mixed with Wild Asian Leopard Cat. HEALTH In 2000 I finally found out what my mystery illness was that got me taken out of my job with CitiBank all those years ago. I have MS (Multiple Sclerosis), which is a chronic illness of the Central Nervous System that to date has no cure. I give myself a shot of Copaxone daily, to try to slowdown the progression of the illness. MS is unpredictable and plays it's tricks on me. To work out my feelings I do sculptures & paintings about this disease and they help me heal. I do my exercises, walk, go out with friends, etc. Laugh every day & smile all the time. Why: because they are both things that promote healing. MS Never Stops me from being happy and doing the things I love. WRAP-UP So that's my story, so far, in my wonderful life! FORBEARANCE If you've read all of this WOW. I really thank you. Hugs
